An opened packet of chips is stale by the next evening, and a folded-over corner with a clothes peg has never once kept anything crisp. This sealer melts the top of the packet shut instead. Press it over the mouth of the bag, slide it along, and in about two seconds the packet is closed again as tightly as it came from the factory.

It is a 2-in-1 tool. The upper button heats the sealing strip to close a bag; the lower one runs a small cutter that slits the next packet open cleanly, so you are not tearing masala sachets with your teeth. One device does both jobs and lives in the kitchen drawer.

It is rechargeable, with a 400 mAh battery and a USB-C cable in the box, so there is no trailing wire and no packet of AA cells to keep replacing. A full charge lasts through weeks of ordinary kitchen use.

It works on the thin plastic, laminated foil and paper-lined pouches that snacks, dry fruit, masala, biscuits, bread and frozen food come in. It is a heat sealer, not a vacuum sealer - it closes the packet but does not draw the air out of it, and it is not meant for thick vacuum-sealer bags, cloth or anything already wet at the seam.
