Washing a car at home in Pakistan usually means either a hose pipe that needs a tap nearby and wastes a lot of water, or a bucket and a cloth that leave the wheel arches dirty. Most flats and street parking have neither a tap nor a socket anywhere near the car. This spray gun needs neither. Drop the suction hose into a bucket of water, clip in a battery, and pull the trigger.

It sprays a focused jet for rinsing mud off wheel arches, tyres and the underside of the bumpers, or a wider spray for rinsing the body. The foam bottle clips onto the front: fill it with car shampoo and water and it lays a coat of foam over the paint to loosen dirt before you wipe. The same gun rinses motorbikes and bicycles, washes down a porch, courtyard or car porch floor, and waters plants.

The kit comes with two rechargeable lithium-ion battery packs, marked 48VF, so when one runs down you swap in the other and carry on instead of stopping to charge. Charge both fully before first use, as the manual instructs. Everything packs away in a hard plastic carry case that fits in the boot.

Be realistic about what it is. It is a portable cordless washer, strong enough to rinse and foam a car, bike or patio, but it is not a replacement for a mains-powered pressure washer when it comes to caked-on mud or stripping a driveway. Using a bucket also means far less water than a hose pipe.

Look after it: keep the filter end of the suction hose in clean water, because sand and grit drawn into the pump will damage it, and do not run the gun without water. Keep the battery and the charger dry, take the battery out before changing nozzles, and never point the spray at people, animals or electrical sockets.
